LOCKWOOD'S SUPPORTS THE NATIONAL GARDEN FESTIVAL!

You probably know by now that our region has taken on the first ever National Garden Festival. The 5-week series of events includes 17 garden walks or tours (through many townships, from Lewiston to Hamburg, Clarence to South Buffalo, ending with the great Garden Walk Buffalo on July 24 and 25. The National Festival also covers symposia and guest speakers (including Stephanie Cohen, pictured below, who spoke at Lockwood's during our Perennials Symposium last month.)
Other features of the Festival: Open Gardens (77 private yards open for viewing on Mondays or Thursdays), Bus Tours on Fridays, and several featured celebrations and concerts.

The Front Yard Competition

Another huge firstthat is happening here: A front yard contest, to make over 19 front yards on historic old North Parade Avenue, opposite the Buffalo Museum of Science and MLK Park.
Landscapers from the WNY Nursery & Landscape Association have volunteered to show their professional skills, and compete for prizes--with public judging to follow. The front yard project broke ground on July 6, and finished on Friday, July 9th.

Now you can drive by and watch what's happened--it's awesome, truly. You are also encouraged to vote for your first three favorites, with ballots if you go there, or online at www.nationalgardenfestival.com. (Online you can see Before and After of each of the 19 houses--quite an accomplishment.

The credits and high praise should go to the WNY Nursery & Landscape Association members who volunteered this, and spent their time and money, to remake an already beautiful row of homes.
Thank you, CNLPs! (Certified Nursery & Landscape Professionals.)

And our contribution--? Lockwood's designed and contributed the flowers for 23-inch planters that adorn the front of each house. The whiskey-barrel planters hold signs showing the landscaper names and contributing businesses supporting the contest.
